Federico d'Orazio is a sculptor from Italy. He uses whatever method to transmit his message. He explains: "I level my antenna at 'the darker side of our society' to pick up the conditions of social and political malaise. In my multimedia provocations I pay attention to the actuality, the chronicle and big social transformations.". For a project in the prison 'Nieuw Vosseveld' in Vught he wanted to work with neon light. "A prison is a sad and gray place, so the idea was to literally lighten up the place", says Federico. The Italian artist went looking for a partner who could help him make his ideas come to reality
D'Orazio: "I visited a few neon-companies without making an appointment first. Because I find that people only show their real selves if they can't prepare themselves. René Huizenga, 3Tacs director turned out to be really interested. It instantly felt right; he understood my work and my ideas. He really knows what he is doing. He was a real partner throughout the process of the artwork. 3Tac was precise, flexible and still: not boring!".
The prison in Vught is owned by the Rijksgebouwendienst. "That's why I had to work with a company which could give a ten years warranty on their materials. 3Tac could guarantee this kind of durability. All in all the project turned out exactly how I had it in my mind. No compromises had to be made!", concludes Federico.
